1. Embrace memories
Look at pics from last year or the last five years or the last decade. You'll be reminded of good memories that will bring a smile to your face. While you're at it, think of making a photo album for yourself or your siblings or a friend or your parents. This small act of kindness will be a token of gratitude towards everything and everyone that's good as gold in your life. It will also help you find your smile. It will probably make someone else smile, too. |
2. Plan a trip
Make it realistic or go crazy. Pick a place that will surely make your heart jump. It doesn't have to be in a remote island that's reachable only to a handful of people who can afford $20k a night for fancy lodging. By all means do that, if that's what you've been longing for and can afford. If you can afford that type of luxury, more power to you. But bring along a friend. Whatever your budget, you can always explore a different part of your town, city, or state. Look for some place that's intriguing. Don't believe all the hoopla about the trendiest spots. Every place has a soul. Check out the Forbes' list or tell us what you have in mind. |
3. Make a call
Call an old friend or a cousin or an acquaintance. If calling is something that makes you sweat, opt for a text or a message through social media. Then try to have a conversation or start off with a quick chat. Don't be disappointed if you get rejected. Reach out to someone else you haven't heard from in a while. See it as your way of adding to the positive energy supply that is much needed in this world nowadays. Don't do it because it will make you look good in front of others or because it will generate likes. Do it for your own self. |
4. Cook anything
This is a piece of advise from someone who prefers to eat store bought popcorn rather than crank up the heat in the kitchen. Whatever your belief system, cooking is worth a try. Make risotto or make pasta or bake some cookies. Start out with a simple set of recipes or go for complicated ones knowing that you might fail but still succeed in conquering your kitchen fears. Share with us your success stories. Even failures will be fun. |
5. Cuddle up
Get a blankie and cuddle up with a book or your iPad or your kindle. Read something from your treasure trunk of old gems and then read something from someone new. Read from someone that you've heard about in the office or in the subway or a book cover you've seen displayed at your local bookstore. Read from a Brooklyn writer or from a far away place. 5+ And, check out HocTok for lots of good leads. Make it good! |
